The 82 Alliance, a not-for-profit mobility think tank reimagining how people move throughout our communities, would like to welcome and recognize new board member Melissa Miklus, PLA, ASLA, Director of Healthy Communities at RK&K.
Melissa is a Landscape Architect and Director of Healthy Communities at RK&K. Her passion is working with communities to create healthier places through context-sensitive planning and design. With experience from large-scale master plans and greenways to prominent urban plazas and streetscapes - her projects effectively combine classic design principles with modern awareness, addressing infrastructure with innovative sustainable alternatives to craft spaces that stimulate positive social interaction and purpose. Melissa’s focus on human-centric design enhances transportation projects by engaging communities through rich, dynamic, clear presentations and activities. She sits on the Council for the East Coast Greenway and the Board of The Friends of Maryland’s Olmsted Parks & Landscapes.
"People are the core of all transportation projects. From the people who plan and design – to the construction and maintenance teams – to the communities who will enjoy these space for generations to come. Our goal is to develop safe solutions, driven by people, that foster a sense of ownership and pride. I am thrilled to be involved in the conversation at The 82 Alliance and look forward to seeing how we change transportation access and experiences for all people as our world evolves." - Melissa Miklus
