King of Prussia-based GVF’s My School in Motion Program Elevating Bike Encouragement at Valley Forge

By MontCo Today

King of Prussia-based GVF, a winner of the Bicycle Friendly Business award, is elevating bike encouragement at Valley Forge through its My School in Motion program, writes Raven Wells for the Bike League.

Thanks to its participation, Valley Forge Middle School was also recognized in the latest round of Bicycle Friendly Business awards.

GVF started the program in 2018 after receiving a PennDOT Transportation Alternatives Set Aside Grant. The goal was to combat some worrisome statistics, including that less than three in middle and high school students get their recommended hour of physical activity every day.

The nonprofit organization has a mission to inspire mobility choices for all. It achieves this by promoting transportation alternatives like biking, walking, public transit, carpooling, and vanpooling.

GVF partnered with Tredyffrin Easttown School District to bring the program to its first schools. Through the program, the organization educates and promotes the benefits of active transportation and discovers barriers that prevent safely biking and walking in the community.

It also provides space for students to advocate for safer active transportation modes in the form of school clubs.
